Scotty James Wins Gold at Aspen X Games

Australian snowboard champion Scotty James has cemented his reputation as the world’s top halfpipe competitor, having clinched his third X Games Aspen gold in four years at the prestigious Superpipe at the X Games Aspen. The snowboarder from Warrandyte has won every halfpipe contest he entered in the 2018-2019 season and now the first three of the 2019-2020 season.

“The feeling never gets old. Winning is such an amazing feeling. So much hard work goes into this,” James said. “That feeling is unbelievable. To do it here at X Games is very, very special to me. X Games is a pinnacle for us. I dreamt of getting one X Games medal and I’ve added another one to my collection. So I’m absolutely pumped and just excited about the whole event.”

James entered the event as the defending gold medallist, holding off Japan’s Yuto Totsuka and Switzerland’s Jan Sherrer to take to the top of the podium again. James says keeping up with the high level of competition keeps the winning feeling fresh.

“Riding the halfpipe is getting more and more technical. It’s becoming more and more physically demanding. So when you get to stand on top of the podium, the feeling is still much the same as the first one.”

X Games host Jack Mitram said of James ,“Not even Shaun White won 10 straight in a row, I don’t think. To be that consistent in a  sport like snowboarding is just unheard of….he’s far beyond.”

The three time World Champion has also won an Olympic bronze medal at PyeongChang in 2018, a total of five X Games medals including his three gold, and nine FIS World Cup medals (6 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze).

The Superpipe contest had a new format, with a 30-minute jam session in the eight-rider final as opposed to the traditional untimed three-run final format. The winner was determined more by overall performance instead of their best score on a single run. The best single run still makes up the bulk of a rider’s standings — but a small percentage is about that overall impression.

The format favoured James. “I really enjoyed it”, he said. “I think it was an awesome show and display of snowboarding and how you have to diversify yourself and your tricks,” James said. “Historically that’s what snowboarding has always been about. It’s a way to express your creativity and a format like this really does that.”

Other Australians competing include Jackson Strong from Lockhart in regional NSW  – 6-time X Games Best Trick gold medallist  – and Rob Adelberg from Benalla, who’s earned 9 medals in 11 XG starts since X Games Aspen 2018. Both will both compete in Moto X and Snow Bike X over the weekend.

COACH: Spring 2020 Global Campaign Starring Jennifer Lopez and Michael B. Jordan

Coach has launched  the “Originals Go Their Own Way,” campaign for Spring 2020. Starring award-winning actor, singer, producer and new face of Coach Jennifer Lopez in her first campaign for the house and global face of Coach menswear, actor and producer Michael B. Jordan, the campaign tells the story of authentic self-expression through the lens of its powerful cast.

Set in New York City, Coach’s home since 1941, “Originals Go Their Own Way” communicates Creative Director Stuart Vevers’ evolved vision for the house. Spontaneous, real and playful to reflect the inclusive and optimistic spirit of the house and New York City, it celebrates authenticity, individuality and those who forge their own unique way in life.

Emphasized by the inspiring stories of Lopez and Jordan, both known as courageously independent individuals who have paved new paths while staying true to themselves, the campaign advocates for doing things your own way and expressing yourself through purpose and style.

To bring the campaign to life, Vevers worked with photographer Juergen Teller, whose partnership with Coach began in the fall of 2019 and has continued through its holiday and spring campaigns. Shot in iconic locations around the city, including the Edge at Hudson Yards and the High Line, where Coach held its show for the Spring collection, the images also feature the sculpture “Brick House” by the artist Simone Leigh.

The public artwork, a 16-foot tall bronze bust of a Black woman which references numerous architectural styles, is a symbol of inclusion, optimism and strength that sits beneath the house’s headquarters, and was featured in its recent show.

“At the start of a new decade, I felt instinctively that it was right to celebrate the color, energy and optimism of New York, our hometown and inspiration as a house,” said Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers. “I loved working with Juergen to bring my vision for Spring to life, and to tell the stories of Jennifer and Michael in a unique and authentic way.”

“I have a unique history with Coach that dates back to ‘All I Have,’” said Lopez. “It is a brand that embodies the essence of being born and bred in New York and I, of course, deeply relate to that. In all it creates, Coach promotes individuality and optimism in its style as well as a sense of authenticity and inclusion. Like me, we’re both New York originals, who create a unique mix of high-fashion with street edge. With Stuart’s designs and Juergen’s photography, we captured special and unique visual moments for this campaign with the iconic New York City skyline as the perfectly tailored backdrop.”

“I’m proud to be part of the new spring campaign,” said Jordan. “The story of what makes an original is very meaningful to me for many reasons, and it was a great experience working with Stuart and Juergen to tell that story in a way that feels fresh and powerful.”

“Originals Go Their Own Way” spotlights the house’s new Spring bags, including the Hutton, the Rambler, and the men’s Pacer Backpack and Belt Bag—and a ready-to-wear collection featuring a bold new statement in leather, a reference to the house’s roots.

YouTube series: the incredibly funny Chan & Dee’s Drink Tank Launch

After being run over at a zebra crossing – not once but twice, Doublepay divorcees Chanel & Dior are forced to confront their worst nightmare…they are invisible!  Being 50, female and very very f***d off, they decided to create their own TV chat show. Fuelled by the fury of insignificance and a truckload of mojitos, these outraged ladies-who-lunch set out to investigate what the world’s thinking drinking women have to say about this shocking state of affairs.

With their old Kinkytoppers school chum Bettina Westfield Rockbottom dropping in for a nip at the bar and a sleepover on the balcony, Chan and Dee have their manicured hands full. But their show biz inexperience is exceeded only by their determination to stay hi-viz at 50.

“We plan to be bigger than a Kardashian bum on steroids,” said Chan, co-star of the new online comedy. Fellow cougar and co-host Dee hopes that, if nothing else, the show will ignite her Tinder inbox.

With all the characters performed by Helen O’Connor (Rake 2, Crownies), Louise McCabe (The Runner Up – Adelaide Festival Fringe )and Rhonda Doyle (Not Happy Jan TVC, Felony) the chat show is a vehicle for mature, Aussie comedy actresses.

Written by Helen O’Connor, Louise McCabe  & Claire Haywood (McLeods Daughters, The Pink House, Unreal Estate), directed and produced by Claire and designed by Teresa Negroponte (The Checkout, Sheilas), the creative team plan to give the blokes a run for their money when it comes to hard chat, cheap wigs and topical satire.

“Its such a thrill to be working with these incredibly talented women of a certain age. Chan & Dee’s Drink is stream of semi-consciousness at its best”, said director Claire Haywood.Chan & Dee’s Drink Tank premieres on Youtube at 4pm on Thursday January 23rd.
