New film explores the importance of touch: so step back from your devices

Director Nichola Wong presents her visceral short film “Skinship”, a sensual and beguiling exploration of touch, that examines our modern obsession with electronic devices. Devices that promise to be the gateway to new connections but may end up causing fatal disconnect. Set in the near future the film sets out to explore the possible consequences of lives so taken up by screen communication that many of us are left virtually incapable of touching and communicating with those closest to us.

This alluring story is told through Mel, an alienated office worker who turns to a talented touch therapist to fulfil her need for flesh-to-flesh contact and help her re-learn the habit of touch – not touch screen, but rather, touch-person. This connection leads the film towards a provocative but touching climax.

On a physical and emotional level, touch is the most important sense, yet it is perhaps the most overlooked sense in today’s technologically advancing societies. From the very moment we are born we crave touch, it is part of our humanness, we need it to survive, thrive and truly be alive.

The cast is lead by Hungarian born Anna Marie Cseh (“Outlander”, “Youth”, “Paths of Light”, “Fragments”) who delivers a powerful and emotional performance. It was the film’s underlying human message that attracted Anna to the project. Anna is supported by Denise Moreno (“Manolete”, “88”), playing the touch professional and Richard Laing (“Batman Begins”, “V for Vendetta”), playing her husband.
