Strand Arcade salutes the best of the fashion best

Sydney’s Strand Arcade continues to build upon its long-standing reputation as the home of prestigious design talent and bespoke artisans, with Spring/Summer 2015 celebrating the intriguing concept of duality.

Challenging and reinterpreting the worlds of fashion, food and music through the creative power of two, the season explores the pairing of complimentary sets of skills and the fusion of artistic minds.

Award winning musical duo Say Lou Lou, twin sisters Miranda and Elektra Kilbey, bring this concept of duality to life as curators of the new issue of The Strand Arcade’s in house volume 1891, and as the faces of Evening With Our Designers, The Strand Arcade’s annual celebration of its unique artisans. Claiming the notion of two voices as one to be the main philosophy behind their music, it is clear there is no greater fit with the season’s concept than these two special guests.

The sisters, who hail from Australia, have supercharged voices and an independent sense of style, with their music garnering great accolades internationally. Poised for even greater heights, the pair fittingly take on the dual role of 1891 cover stars and curators, and highlight exciting couples that have teamed together to create beautiful outcomes throughout the issue.

The Strand Arcade also opens its doors to customers for a special evening on Wednesday 19th August at 6:00pm to launch the Spring/Summer 2015 season, with this year’s 15 year anniversary of the Evening With Our Designers event offering one-night-only customised experiences.

The evening is captivated by dualism, with a Gentleman’s Hub anchored by The Balvenie Whisky Bar complimented by a Ladies Lounge serving celebratory Solerno Fizz Cocktails. DJ Duo Leah Simmons and DJ Cassette will be on the decks whilst up and coming Sydney based muso Lisa Caruso will perform a stunning pair of her latest songs.

Strand Arcade counts a number of creative duos amongst its retailers, with fascinatingly diverse results arising from the talented pairings. Creative duos of the evening include:

  • Aje designers Edwina Robinson and Adrian Norris, who will be in store talking customers though the new collection, with shoppers receiving a special gift with any full priced
    purchase on the night.
  • Louise Olsen and Simon Ormondy of Dinosaur Designs, who are offering a complimentary Beetleshell Bangle valued at $85 when customers spend $150 or more.
  • Mister Mister, whose collaboration with Creative Director Cesar Cueva from Courtesy of the Artist has resulted in an exclusive range of men’s jewellery titled “Earn Your Stripes”.
  • Lisa Dempsey and Jacqueline Hunt of luxury knitwear label Jac+ Jack, who will be hosting Cashmere raffles throughout the evening, with results drawn at 6pm, 7pm & 8pm.
  • Designer Kit Willow, who marks her triumphant return to design by teaming up with cult women’s retailer The Corner Shop to present her new label KITX will be in store on the night.

The Strand Arcade is a community of treasured partnerships and Volume 5 of 1891 and Evening With Our Designer 2015 pays a harmonious tribute to the coming together of these creative minds. The idea that great things come in pairs has never been more apt.

WHAT: Strand Arcade Evening with Our Designers
