Ferrari is proud to be a principal partner of the Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear 1715 – 2015 exhibition exclusive to the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, from 2 May – 14 October 2018 and has launched a series of classic Ferrari film screenings to celebrate.

The film screenings will take place at the museum at 2pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of August and showcase four classic films where Ferrari stars alongside leading men of style including Steve McQueen, Al Pacino, and Matthew Broderick.

The four films are Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) featuring the 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spider; Le Mans (1971) featuring the 1970 Ferrari 512S; Against All Odds (1984) featuring the Ferrari 308 QV GTSi; and Scent of a Woman (1992) featuring the 1989 Ferrari Mondial T Cabriolet.

“Ferrari clients have always held a strong appreciation for art and design, quality, style, and fine craftsmanship as celebrated through the Reigning Men exhibition. We are proud to also celebrate Ferrari’s starring role in film, with many of the world’s leading men of style being Ferrari devotees both on and off the film set,” said Herbert Appleroth, CEO Ferrari Australasia. “Paul Newman, for example, competed in high-profile races of the likes of the 24 Hours of Daytona in a Ferrari 365 GTB4, while Steve McQueen owned a veritable fleet of Ferraris now much sought-after by collectors.”

As part of the exhibition, the Powerhouse Museum will also host a Ferrari Atelier space where the public will be encouraged to create their very own personalised Ferrari Portofino. Every car that leaves the factory in Maranello is completely bespoke and personalised to client’s individual specifications. This display has been designed to provide audiences with a unique insight into the process behind personalising a Ferrari.

A Ferrari Portofino has also been incorporated into a display that celebrates stylish men from throughout history who have owned or driven a Ferrari – with famous names like Steve McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Mick Jagger, Roger Vadim, Peter Sellers and Clint Eastwood amongst them.

Direct from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Reigning Men exhibition features some of the world’s most iconic menswear designers spanning over 300 years and traversing the globe.

Presented by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) Centre for Fashion, the Reigning Men exhibition features over 130 garments ranging from extravagant silks worn by 18th century aristocrats to the flawless tailoring of 19th century dandies to internationally renowned fashion brands. MAAS holds the nation’s most extensive collection of Australian fashion and comprises over 30,000 objects, from garments and fabric samples from the nation’s top fashion exports to patterns, sketches, accessories and fashion photography.

The Ferrari film screenings will take place in the art deco Kings Cinema within the Powerhouse and adjacent to the Reigning Men exhibition space. Screenings will be free with Reigning Men exhibition admission.
