Campari, Italy’s iconic red apéritif, and Imbibe Magazine have partnered for the seventh year in a row to showcase Negroni Week 2019 – a celebration of the iconic and historic Negroni cocktail.

Created by Imbibe, Negroni Week is an international charity initiative that will take place from the 24th to the 30th of June in bars, restaurants and retailers around the world, dedicated to celebrating the crimson-red cocktail, with Campari at the heart, over the common goal of raising money for charitable initiatives. And this year is even more special, as 2019 marks the 100-year anniversary of the Negroni: #N100.

With the trend for classic and contemporary cocktails at an all-time high, and the Negroni being one of the world’s most popular cocktails, this year’s Negroni Week is shaping up to be the best yet.

Negroni Week launched in 2013 with about 100 participating bars, and last year’s event welcomed the involvement nearly 10,000 venues in 87 countries, (a 29% increase in participation since 2017) to raise an impressive total of $585,000 for charitable causes in 2018, contributing to a total of nearly $2 million raised since the initiative began.

On 24th June, festivities will commence in Florence, the birthplace of the Negroni, triggering a series of charity events due to take place around the world to honour Count Camillo Negroni, the man who inspired the cocktail. International bartenders will gather from around the world to prepare their interpretations and twists on The Negroni in Florence.

It was in the city of Florence, in Caffé Cassoni, that the first iteration of the Negroni was created 100 years ago for the renowned Count Camilo Negroni after he asked bartender Fosco Scarcelli to strengthen his favourite cocktail – the Americano – by replacing soda water with a splash of gin. Scarselli added an orange slice as garnish, rather than the usual lemon twist, and from this moment on, the Negroni was born.

In the biggest series of events that CAMPARI Australia has held to date – some of Australia’s best and most innovative venues, bars, and restaurants across the country will be celebrating the iconic cocktail during Negroni Week 2019 featuring dedicated Negroni menus, in-venue activations, and special events.

These sessions will showcase the classic Negroni alongside unique twists and variations, demonstrating the versatility of Campari and reinforcing it as the key ingredient of the Negroni.

The official Negroni Week 2019 launch party will kick-off on the 24th of June at Sydney’s Hilton Zeta Bar. From 6-9pm, 15 of Sydney’s best cocktail bars will serve their respective creative Negroni twists, with all generated sales being donated to charities.

The event will also exhibit some Campari artwork alongside contemporary interpretations of the Negroni created by Australian artists. One of these upcoming young artists is award-winning Jamie Preisz (winner of the 2018 Archibald Packing Room Prize and 2018 People’s Choice Prospect Portrait Prize). His Negroni masterpiece “Gliding Bloom Drift” will go into a sweepstake prize draw with all proceeds being donated to the ReachOut.com organization.

With hundreds of bars and restaurants taking part in Negroni Week 2019 in Australia, Campari lovers will be spoilt for choice as to where to enjoy their favourite cocktail.
