• Choosing the perfect pairing for the festive feast can be a tough decision so Qantas epiQure’s wine buyer Andrea Pritzker – one of only 24 Masters of Wine in Australia – is sharing her tips on what wines to match with some food favourites this Christmas:
  • A sticky wine to leave out for Santa with a mince pie

A fruit-rich mince pie calls for something luscious and sweet. Offer Santa a glass of Seppeltsfield Muscat DP63 Grand Muscat – the raisiny sweetness is a perfect complement to the mince pie.

    • Freshly peeled prawns

There’s nothing better on Christmas Day than a bucket of freshly peeled prawns shared with family and friends. Pair with a fresh crisp rosé such as Bird in Hand Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir Rosé 2016 or Willunga 100 Grenache Rosé 2016.

    • Turkey/ham

If you’re enjoying a traditional Christmas feast with roast turkey or baked ham or both, look for richer whites such as chardonnay or lighter-bodied reds like pinot noir. Try pairing with Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2014 or Giant Steps Sexton Pinot Noir 2014.

  • Pavlova

It can be tricky trying to match a wine to dessert. The trick is to look for something sweeter than the dessert itself. With a gorgeous pavlova topped with fresh seasonal fruit, pair with a classic Australian wine such as De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Semillon 2013 or McWilliam’s Morning Light Botrytis Semillon 2010.

  • Christmas pudding

For traditional Christmas pudding, why not try something new and serve with a sparkling red? Served cold, the gorgeous bubbly notes of ripe red berries and paneforte are a great accompaniment and provide a welcome freshness to the end of a Christmas feast. Try Primo Estate Joseph Sparkling Red NV.
