This year’s Birdcage enclosure will be a Victoria Racing Club (VRC) members oasis, with the return of the greatest party within the greatest party, 1 Oliver St and the introduction of the Palm Springs inspired Bird Bath Bar.

1 Oliver St returns to The Birdcage for a second year promising even more fabulous fun set inside the splendour of Lady Helena Cavesson-Brown’s mansion, a fictitious character who has a tradition of throwing fabulous and extravagant parties at her home.

Each year, a new room of the mansion is unveiled and Lady Helena is already teasing guests with hints of the exotic and quirky. Last year guests were treated to impromptu performances from some of Australia’s top musical acts including Sheppard, Bag Raiders, Hot Dub Time Machine, The Preatures, San Cisco and Tkay Maidza, leaving guests wondering who will pop up in 1 Oliver Street this year along with the promise of a surprise performance by an international guest.

Perfect for the young and young at heart, complete with French champagne and indulgent delicacies, this total immersive experience is not to be missed.

The Bird Bath Bar will make its debut in The Birdcage this year, offering VRC members the chance to enjoy a drink and people watch, without a need for a marquee invitation. The Bird Bath Bar takes inspiration from the poolside glamour of the iconic mid-century designs of Palm Springs, and will be a celebration of bright colour and geometric patterns.

The main design feature is a one-of-a-kind “bird bath”, a sculptural masterpiece which draws inspiration from birds in flight.

The Bird Bath Bar has been designed as the perfect place for VRC Members to perch for a refreshing drink and enjoy incredible people-watching in between races. The offering includes a range of bespoke cocktails, champagne, premium beers and wines, as well as the famous Peter Rowland chicken sandwiches.

Guests of the Bird Bath Bar can also expect acoustic performances to start the day, followed by DJs to dance through the afternoon. VRC Executive General Manager Customer Engagement Caroline Ralphsmith said the Bird Bath Bar has been designed as the perfect spot to drop by and soak in the fabulous atmosphere of the Birdcage.

“The Bird Bath Bar design is inspired by the poolside glamour referenced in the iconic mid-centurydesign and fashion landscape of Palm Springs; the epicenter of refined sophistication, leisure and Californian playfulness.”

“Created to provide an exclusive place for VRC members, the Bird Bath Bar is a great spot to perch, people watch and soak in the extraordinary atmosphere The Birdcage is world famous for,” Ms Ralphsmith said.

Tickets for 1 Oliver St are sold out on AAMI Victoria Derby Day. Tickets are selling fast on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, Kennedy Oaks Day and Seppelt Wines Stakes Day.
