Sunglass Hut Collaborates with Australian Jewellery Designer

Joining forces in the name of love, Sunglass Hut Australia and New Zealand have collaborated with designer, jeweler and artist Nikita Majajas of Doodad + Fandango to recognize all the shades of lovers of the LGBTQIA+ community, who will be celebrating their pride at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade on 6 March.

Launching in line with the internationally recognized parade, the iconic jeweler has created a limited edition sunglass chain that will be available with purchases over $350 from select Sunglass Hut stores.

Nikita of Doodad + Fandango said “Mardi Gras is an event that means so much to me. I first marched in the street parade many years ago and since then have done it nearly every year with family, friends and community with floats such as PFLAG, Heaps Gay, Twenty10 and many more. It’s the best festival in the world, everyone should experience it at least once if they can! My LGBTQIA+ community is so much more than just a yearly festival and parade, but a rich and diverse collection of people with unique stories to tell.”

From Valentine’s Day to Mardi Gras, Sunglass Hut cherish all the special Love is Love occasions, and the sharing of these moments with friends, family and loved ones. A proud supporter of the LGBTIQA+ community, Sunglass Hut believes embracing everyone’s unique style, and in celebrating the true beauty of people confident about who they are and whom they love.

“Sunglass Hut are thrilled to continue their support of the LBGTIQA+ community this year with our collaboration with Doodad and Fandango. Nikita’s work has such a beautiful, effervescent vibe and sense of community that we feel really aligns with the Sunglass Hut sense of fun and the belief that everyone should celebrate how beautiful they are, inside and out” says Kate Boulos, Director of Marketing, Sunglass Hut Australia and New Zealand.

Diversity and inclusiveness are traits that Sunglass Huts celebrates in its stores every day, and that Doodad + Fandango champion through their colourful, pop art designed accessories. This is fully reflected in the limited-edition eyewear chain, launching later this month 10 selected locations.

The sunglass chain (that also double as a necklace!) has been created with a selection of stunning glittery love hearts in the iconic rainbow colours that represent the diversity of gays and lesbians around the world. A big red glittery heart at the centre honours the strong belief that love isn’t just for couples, but also for extended communities.

Sunglass Hut stores will offer the chains as a gift with purchase in 10 selected stores across the Eastern Seaboard in time for Valentine’s Day & Mardi Gras. They will be available from 19 – 22 February or until stocks run out with purchases over $350. The sunglass chain is the ideal gift for someone special or creating your next favourite look.

Furthermore, a ‘Love is Love’ photoshoot including Nikita Majajas and her wife DJ Charlie Villas, 2021 Eurovision contestant Montaigne with her partner Patrick Morrow and Sean Brady with partner Zoran Jevtic, that has selected voices that demonstrate different facets of the community and how they celebrate their love.

Nikita says of the limited edition chain, “I love adorning people with fun, colourful, pop art accessories that make them smile! Creating these rainbow glitter sunglass chains for the Sunglass Hut was an amazing opportunity to express my love for community and fashion. I’m excited that this project will also benefit one of my favourite organisations, Twenty10, who provide a vital service to the LGBTQIA+ youth community.”

To spread the love even further, from Sunglass Hut and Doodad + Fandango have teamed up with local charity Twenty10 which supports LGBTIQA+ youth through housing, mental health, counselling and social support as well as other support services to the wider community. The collaboration and expression of love will see Sunglass Hut x Doodad + Fandango contribute 10% of all sales of frames with the gift with purchase to the charity.
