Patrón Tequila pays homage to the nations favourite weekend cocktail – The Margarita

Bacardi-owned Patrón Tequila has launched Margarita Month, a nationwide campaign throughout February, celebrating the classic cocktail and encouraging fans to toast their favourite Margarita Moments.

As evidenced by 7.78 million #margarita tags on Instagram, Margaritas are what we pour to soak up life’s happiest moments. This simple concoction of premium tequila, lime, agave and orange liqueur has stolen our hearts and taste buds: the salty rim of the glass, the sweetness of the agave, the bitterness of the tequila, and the sourness of the limes.

Whether you like yours frozen, on the rocks, salt, or no salt, sweet or spicy, the margarita is a refreshing cocktail for everyone. It also looks and feels oh-so-right whether you’re in a tuxedo or a bathing suit, enjoying with friends at your local bar, or making them at home using whatever cup you can find.

With few ingredients to hide behind, this classic recipe demands good spirits. Ultra-premium Patrón Silver Tequila is renowned for its clean palette, clear colour, and floral notes, and the perfect inclusion to elevate a classic margarita. Drinkers of Patrón Silver Tequila can anticipate a super smooth early palette eventually transforming into a warm sweetness laced with citrus and spice.

Patrón brand ambassador, Joseph Chisholm said, “Margaritas have risen to fame over the last couple of years because lockdown has people wishing for a holiday, and what does everyone drink on holidays?? Margaritas! It’s also a very simple cocktail to make at home. All you need is good quality Tequila, fresh lime, Triple Sec, ice, and a cocktail shaker. If you want the best Margarita, you need the best Tequila, and Patrón is leading the category because it is a handcrafted artisanal Tequila promoting the highest quality agave and its traditional methods in production.”

Facts about Margaritas (by Patrón brand ambassador Joseph Chisholm)

  1. Unlike most classic cocktails the origins of the Margarita are a bit hazy. There’s a rumour that an American socialite Margarita Sames was the first to create the cocktail for her friends in 1948 in Aculpulco. First accounts of the drink date back to 1937, though.
  2. The first frozen margarita machine was made in 1971 by restaurateur Mariano Martinez. He cleverly adapted a soft-serve ice cream machine into a frosty margarita dispenser.
  3. Margarita means ‘daisy’ in Spanish and The Daisy is an old prohibition drink that has a base spirit, sugar and a sour. The Tequila Daisy inspired the modern Margarita.
  4. Why the salt-rimmed glass? Salt is present on The Margarita glass to bring out the sweet and sour flavours of the drink. Just a pinch of salt around the rim is needed to enhance the flavours in this classic, refreshing cocktail.
  5. Margaritas are best made with quality tequila like Patrón. You can also use aged tequilas like Reposado in your Margarita to give a different flavour.
