

Sydney celebrates 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Margaret, Double Bay
The world-famous Melbourne Cup Carnival has been celebrated in Sydney as the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) launched Cup Week at Margaret in Double Bay.

Guests in attendance included VRC Ambassador and champion trainer Gai Waterhouse AO, Lexus Melbourne Cup-winning trainers Chris Waller and Danny O’Brien, friend of the VRC Delta Goodrem AM, Melbourne Cup Carnival ambassador Christian Wilkins, Network 10 host Angela Bishop, athlete Candice Warner and model and presenter Erin Holland.

Hosted by Australian media personality Gorgi Coghlan, the event gave guests a taste of the exciting things to come as part of the 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Racecourse.

As part of the formalities, leading Australian fashion identity and Lexus Ambassador Kate Waterhouse joined Network 10’s Sandra Sully and others to share their thoughts on Cup Week fashion, with this year particularly special as it marks 60 years of the iconic Myer Fashions on the Field competition.

With just 59 days until the VRC lifts the curtain on the Melbourne Cup Carnival, VRC Chairman Neil Wilson discussed plans for a supersized Cup Week including a new chapter in the Myer Fashions on the Field competition and the re-opening of The Birdcage after two years of restrictions.

Guests were also given the inside word on Melbourne Cup Carnival contenders from Australia’s champion trainer Chris Waller, who emotionally recounted his 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup win.
The lunch formed part of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour’s visit to Sydney, which is an important tourism market for the VRC. Prior to the pandemic, New South Wales accounted for more than 40,000 guests to the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 29 October followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 1 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 3 November and VRC Champions Stakes Day on Saturday 5 November.
