The Newly Revamped Sunset Cinema St Ives On Sale from Today

Sunset Cinema’s Drive-In Cinema in St Ives has been bringing rockin’ and rollin’ golden-era nostalgia to the northern suburbs of Sydney since it first opened last year. With a new year emerging, the team thought it was time to take this much-loved summer activity to new heights, transforming the picturesque Drive-In experience into one of its renowned open-air Outdoor Cinemas in January 2022.

The revamped set-up at St Ives will be similar to Sunset Cinema’s North Sydney, Wollongong and Canberra locations, and will offer expansive open-air spaces for picnic blankets and camping chairs, a VIP Sunset Lounge section, premium food vendors, a massive selection of iconic films shown on a giant, cinema screen and for the first time, a licensed bar stocked with delicious tipples from exclusive suppliers.

An exciting mix of new and classic films will light up the leafy St Ives Showground from Wednesday 19 January until Saturday 12 March, allowing local movie-buffs and nature-lovers alike to watch their favourite films under the stars with their kids, mates or dates with the convenience of being able to remain hyper-local.

“We’ve been deprived of the movie-going experience over the pandemic, yet some of us are still feeling a little unsure about attending an indoor cinema right now. This is why we wanted to elevate our St Ives cinema to not only bring the full-fledged outdoor cinema experience closer to those who live in the Northern Beaches and North Shore, but also put their minds at ease and allow them to do what they came to do – enjoy their favourite films on the silver screen. So, if you’re looking to get your much-needed movie fix, do something different with your loved ones and also support the local arts community – be sure to get down to the newly revamped Sunset Cinema St Ives this summer!” said Brad Garth, General Manager of Sunset Cinema.

Sunset Cinema is getting the popcorn machines fired up to premier plays of new movies at St Ives, including the likes of Spiderman: No Way Home, The French Dispatch, No Time To Die, The Card Counter and House of Gucci. It’s been a hot minute since so many new films have been released, so if you’re longing to get some new quotes, one-liners, or discussions into your lives, this is your chance to do it a bit differently.

For cinephiles looking to entertain the kids over the school holidays, The Greatest Showman, Encanto, Sing 2 and Clifford The Big Red Dog will tick the family-favourites box, making it not only a great evening out for the little ones, but for mum, dad and the grandparents as well.

The romantics out there will be thrilled to hear that there will be many date-night opportunities over the season, but for those who really want to impress their lovers in the lead up to Valentine’s (or Galantine’s/Palantine’s for the singletons) Day, Sunset Cinema St Ives will be screening Westside Story and Dirty Dancing. Be sure to pack your roses and chocolate-dipped strawberries!

If you and the boys are looking to do something a little different over summer, the outdoor cinema certainly says ‘yeah the boys!’ throughout the season. For those who love a little bit of drama, the action-packed The King’s Man will have you plotting, planning and conspiring long after the movie has ended, or take the red pill and reboot into Matrix: Resurrections

Your next girl’s night is also sorted early next year with the likes of Spencer, The 355 and Death on The Nile all screening at the cinema. So rally up the girls, bring your favourite choccies and cheese plates, and order a bottle of rosé – or two – to enjoy under the stars.

Because movies are best enjoyed with a great tipple, there will be a fully stocked bar for the first time at Sunset Cinema St Ives, with beverages from Greenall’s Gin, Big Drop Brewing, Fowles Wine, StrangeLove and BentSpoke, as well as hearty eats by a local food vendor. Patrons can order these delicious foods via Mr Yum, so they can enjoy the movie and a few drinks while they wait to receive a text to collect their food.

Movie-must-have snacks like freshly popped popcorn, chocolates and lollies will also be available each session. Sunset Cinema also allows for a BYO picnic, so get creative and tag us in your ultimate #movieplatter!
